    A Spherical Hybrid Triboelectric Nanogenerator for Enhanced Water Wave Energy Harvesting

    Water waves are a continuously generated renewable source of energy. However, their random motion and low frequency pose significant challenges for harvesting their energy. Herein, we propose a spherical hybrid triboelectric nanogenerator (SH-TENG) that efficiently harvests the energy of low frequency, random water waves. The SH-TENG converts the kinetic energy of the water wave into solid-solid and solid-liquid triboelectric energy simultaneously using a single electrode. The electrical output of the SH-TENG for six degrees of freedom of motion in water was investigated. Further, in order to demonstrate hybrid energy harvesting from multiple energy sources using a single electrode on the SH-TENG, the charging performance of a capacitor was evaluated. The experimental results indicate that SH-TENGs have great potential for use in self-powered environmental monitoring systems that monitor factors such as water temperature, water wave height, and pollution levels in oceans.11Ysciescopu

    Changes in Structural and Rheological Properties of Guar Gum Particles in Fluidized-Bed Agglomeration: Effect of Sucrose Binder Concentration

    Fluidized-bed agglomeration (FBA) is known to modify the structure and rheology of food powders. In this study, guar gum (GG) powders with various concentrations of sucrose binder (0%, 10%, 20%, or 30%) were subjected to fluidized-bed agglomeration. Subsequently, changes in the characteristics of the GG powders were evaluated by using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), particle size distribution (PSD) analysis, and rheological and dispersibility measurements. SEM images and FTIR spectra revealed surface morphology changes and structural modification, respectively, in the original GG powder after FBA, although the changes observed in FTIR spectra were only slightly dependent on sucrose concentration at low concentrations (0–20%). XRD patterns confirmed that the crystallinity of the GG powder was affected by FBA, but not greatly so by binder concentration. The PSD results showed that the GG particle size was increased by FBA and there was a clear relationship between sucrose concentration (10–30%) and mean particle size. The rheological behavior and dispersibility of GG (properties that are known to be affected by the structure of a powder) were also influenced by sucrose concentration.     Agglomerate Growth of Xanthan Gum Powder during Fluidized-Bed Agglomeration Process

    Xanthan gum (XG) powder was agglomerated via a fluidized-bed agglomeration process using water and maltodextrin (MD) binder solution, after which the products were examined. The agglomerated XG samples were collected every 10 min during agglomeration (50 min) to characterize particle growth behavior. Here, we investigated the particle size distribution, morphological characteristics, and rheological properties of agglomerates obtained at different agglomeration times. The particle size gradually increased with agglomeration time from 0 to 50 min. The porous agglomerates showed rapid growth after 40 min. The particle size of the final products tended to decrease in the dry phase for 10 min due to particle attribution during drying. Using MD as a binder solution instead of water resulted in larger XG particles. The dynamic moduli (G′ and G″) of the final product with water binder were higher than those of the native powder, whereas those of the final product with MD binder solution were lower. The G′ values of the agglomerates with MD increased gradually with agglomeration time. Native XG powders exhibited small and dense particles with a smooth surface, whereas the XG agglomerates had large and porous particles with rough surfaces and became more irregular and rougher as the agglomeration progressed
